Rainbow Granny Huipil Brown Leather Small Backpack

Sorry, this item has sold.

This one of a kind brown leather bag is just right! The vibrant colors are a rainbow palette and the pattern is detailed with stunning geometric ombré shapes. This pattern was woven into a stunning textile by a Mayan woman of Guatemala. It has a handy zippered front pocket and side leather slip pockets.

The fair trade materials and work were all made in Guatemala. The bag is entirely handcrafted. The only machinery used in its creation was a sewing machine to stitch it together.

The leather backpack straps are adjustable so you can make it just the right length to be comfortable for you. This bag is one of a kind. You won’t find its duplicate anywhere.

These bags are fair trade, sustainable fashion and unique. They are made from custom woven panels created on backstrap looms by Mayan women in Guatemala. Each huipil tells the story of the woman who created it. The history, skill and meaning behind each huipil has been handed down for generations.

The bag is entirely handcrafted with full grain marbled brown leather. There are natural marks and lines in the leather that are natural to the leather. This bag will keep getting better with time!

The interior has a leather trimmed zippered compartment and large slip pocket for a cell phone and your miscellaneous goodies. It has a plastic zipper and high quality silver tone hardware. The interior is lined with beautiful handmade Corte fabric. The back panel of the bag has padding to it for added comfort.

Size: approx. 12”w x 10”h x 4”d

So extremely pleased! It’s been a while since I made it back down south and my other huipil bag needed a break, but I was hesitant about finding the same quality and ethnic consciousness online as I do when I buy straight from the source while traveling. But all that disappeared the moment I received my bag. It’s gorgeously hand made and the sweet cards explaining huipil and the culture surrounding it made it a thousand times more special. Being of Andean and Native Hawaiian decent I was moved at how Sirens and Starlight focused on the people and their craft and offered insight and knowledge into their culture. Amazingly well done chicas!
